Story
the best bouquet is a snapshot of a moment in time in a particular place, a distillation of the natural world around us.
Fresh flowers can remind us to notice small but abundant everyday miracles—the changes in our natural world week by week and season by season. For us, a love of flowers is about more than the pretty colors. We think the best bouquet is a snapshot of a moment in time in a particular place, a distillation of the natural world around us. That’s why we love locally grown, seasonally changeable, floral design. Our flowers are an alternative to the typical conventional bouquet today, which commonly contains florals shipped from different corners of the world, with little relationship to each other or us, and with a big carbon footprint.
Evins End Flowers was started by garden designer Cornelia Overton Mallozzi, with her husband, Greg Mallozzi, in 2023 with the goal of bringing beauty and appreciation for nature to our community with flowers.
Our family has lived and cultivated this location since 1890. The “Old Evins House” was built by A.J. Goodson and Willie Webb Goodson in the late 1800s. It was the first brick house in Smithville, and many folks around here said A.J. was puttin’ on airs in building himself a brick house. In 1919, his daughter, Myrtie Ola Goodson, by then married to local businessman and politician Edgar Evins, went about a full renovation of the home and grounds, and many of the details in the landscape, including many of the flowers we cherish today, are artifacts of her stewardship. Their son, Joe L. Evins, a congressman and perhaps the most well-known resident of the house, raised three daughters here with his wife, Ann Smartt Evins. Another wonderful gardener, Ann spread her own magic through the property, creating, among other things, the family garden plot that is the site of our main flower field today. With the recent arrival of Ann’s great granddaughter and A.J. Goodson’s great-great-great-granddaughter, we are proud to have had six generations live on our little “end” of town.
